Some call them cookies for a cause. We call them featured treats that help spread a little joy and awareness, and with any luck, raise some money for good causes and those in need. After a very busy February supplying Coffee By Design with Black History Month cookies to support Black Owned Maine, Lila and I intended to take a little break and catch our breath. But then Ukraine happened, and the onslaught of images of families — mums and dads and kids and family pets — fleeing their homes and country for safe refuge, only for the fathers to have to turn back to fight for their country and their collective freedom…We sat helpless and stunned, not knowing what we could possibly do that would make a difference. And then sunflowers and yellow and blue flags started to fill our social media feeds, with people all over the world feeling the same way. We realized then that what we do is bake, and we could create something beautiful and yummy to share with folks in our neck of the woods that would help raise money on behalf of the kids whose lives will never be the same. Happily, thanks to our amazing community, we raised $1,500 for Unicef Ukraine.
Together, we can do good and important things, one cookie at a time.
