Lila Bean Bakery was started by a mother-daughter duo who share a love of baking, excellent music and watching Jane Austen movies until no words are needed, just outstanding movie quotes.

Baking our way through the pandemic, first as an antidote to remote learning and working and the stress of living through such uncertain times, and then to bring a little comfort and joy to those closest to us, allowed us to process a very strange world unfolding in real time, and yet steal away from it, too. On a whim, we posted a few photos on our new Instagram account, and the floodgates opened. Family and friends wanted our Christmas cookies and Bûche de Noëls, our friend Mary Allen commissioned cookies for Black History Month and helped us find a commercial kitchen, and the lovely Karen Watterson @sweetonmaine did a blog post celebrating those cookies and an article on us for edible Maine. Before we knew it, we were off and running.

The best things in life usually involve a leap of faith, and take a village. We were surrounded by the warm embrace of dear friends, genuine champions and the loveliest people in our little community who shared their talents, their wisdom, their families and their stories with us. They continue to show us the way, illuminate our path, and fill our cups.

Baking makes us happy. It brings us joy, lots of laughter, and indeed, an abundance of decadent treats we can’t wait to share with you.
